Home Minister Pledges Stern Action Against Attackers of Journalists and Media

Kathmandu, April 3 – Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has vowed stringent action against those responsible for the violent attacks on journalists and media houses during the March 28 demonstration at Tinkune, Kathmandu. He assured them that a fair and thorough investigation would identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Minister Lekhak made this commitment during a meeting on Wednesday with a delegation led by the General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Ram Prasad Dahal. The FNJ representatives submitted a memorandum urging the government to take decisive action.

Describing the demonstration as anarchic and ideologically bankrupt, Lekhak emphasized that the mob's intent was criminal. "The attackers crossed all limits, directly targeting journalists and media institutions. The Nepal government takes this matter very seriously," he asserted.

The minister also provided updates on relief assistance for the family of journalist Suresh Rajak, who lost his life, and another journalist who was injured in the incident.

On the occasion, FNJ General Secretary Dahal urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the attacks on media houses and the death of the on-duty journalist, demanding strict action against those responsible.

The information was shared by the Home Minister’s secretariat.
