Kathmandu, March 13: Light rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces today, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

Meteorologist Govinda Kumar Jha stated that the rain is being caused by a combination of local winds and the partial influence of westerly winds. With pre-monsoon activities already underway, thunderstorms and showers are expected this afternoon, although the weather is likely to remain generally clear during the night.

Since Wednesday evening, light to moderate rainfall has already been recorded in the hilly areas of the three provinces. However, the Division has clarified that there is no significant chance of rainfall tonight, as the current weather system has moved eastward after developing over Gandaki Province and exiting through Koshi.

The weather has remained mostly cloudy over the past few days in several parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley. As a result, air travel has been disrupted. According to Tribhuvan International Airport authorities, both domestic and international flights experienced delays on Wednesday afternoon due to poor visibility, forcing some aircraft to circle in the sky before landing.
