Prachanda Backs Bhitthamod Dry Port for Regional Trade and Development

Former Prime Minister and Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', has vowed to support the construction of the Bhitthamod Dry Port in Mahottari. He made this commitment during a discussion organized by the Jaleswor Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Birtamodh today, following an inspection of the proposed dry port site near the Indian border.

Dahal emphasized that one of the key objectives of the Maoist-Terai Madhes awareness campaign is to assess the conditions of people living in border regions and to accelerate development initiatives in these areas. His private secretariat confirmed that Dahal expressed his dedication to ensuring the project's progress, recognizing its potential to boost trade and economic growth in the region.

During the event, the Jaleswor Chamber of Commerce and Industry presented a memorandum to Dahal, outlining the significance of the dry port for local and regional trade. Shiva Chandra Chaudhary, President of the Association, highlighted the strategic advantage of the proposed port, noting that the Kolkata port is just 225 kilometers from the Jaleswor customs point. This proximity would facilitate the import and export of goods to and from third countries, benefiting not only Mahottari but all districts in the Madhes region.

The Bhitthamod Dry Port is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce logistical costs, and stimulate economic activities in the area, making it a vital infrastructure project for the region's development. Dahal's assurance of support has raised hopes for the timely completion of the project, which is seen as a cornerstone for fostering cross-border trade and improving the livelihoods of people in the border areas.
