Over 75,000 Visitors Flock to Gorkha Palace Museum in Eight Months


The Gorkha Palace Museum, a significant site for studying Nepal’s unification history, has welcomed over 75,000 visitors in the past eight months. According to Museum Chief Jaya Narayan Karki, a total of 75,791 people—including domestic and international tourists—visited the museum during this period.

Among the visitors, students on educational tours accounted for the largest group, with 43,848 student visitors. "Many students from various districts visit the museum, especially during the academic tour season, to explore the history of Nepal’s unification campaign," said Karki.

The visitor breakdown includes:

30,704 domestic tourists
1,166 visitors from non-SAARC countries
73 visitors from SAARC nations
The museum, operational since 2065 BS, offers insights into the history of the Shah Dynasty, with a particular focus on King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal. Exhibits include:

Prithvi Narayan Shah's birth astrology chart
Artistic wooden carvings
Ancient war weapons
The museum features 12 exhibition rooms, including:

A dummy figure of King Prithvi Narayan Shah
The Upadesh Kaksha (Counsel Room) housing the king’s manuscripts
A Genealogy Room tracing the Shah dynasty lineage
A Cultural Room showcasing the traditions of various castes
Tourists from both SAARC and non-SAARC countries continue to show keen interest in the museum, drawn by its rich display of Nepal’s unification history and cultural heritage.
