World Radio Day Observed Today

Kathmandu, Feb 13: The World Radio Day is being observed today across the globe with various awareness programs.
In response to the call by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this year’s celebration focuses on broadcasting radio programs that raise awareness about climate change and adaptation measures.
UNESCO Member States proclaimed World Radio Day in 2011, and the United Nations General Assembly officially adopted February 13 as an international observance in 2012.
According to UNESCO, radio remains one of the most reliable and widely used forms of media worldwide as it enters its second century of service. It plays a crucial role in disaster response by providing fact-based information, amplifying the voices of affected communities, and broadcasting dedicated programs during climate emergencies such as tropical storms and floods.
Recognized as a powerful medium for democratic dialogue and mass communication, radio has the widest global reach and remains the most widely listened-to platform.
Historically, radio has played an unparalleled role in fostering social unity, representing marginalized voices, and sharing untold stories. It has been a trusted companion for people in rural and disaster-prone areas, providing vital information, entertainment, and education while driving social change.
