Nepal and Bangladesh Strengthen Trade and Investment Ties at Dhaka Event


Kathmandu, Jan 30: The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka hosted a program titled “Trade and Investment Linkages between Nepal and Bangladesh” on Wednesday in the Bangladeshi capital.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari emphasized the expanding economic ties between the two nations and highlighted progress in key sectors such as trade, connectivity, energy, and tourism. According to an official statement from the Embassy, the Ambassador noted the historic transmission of 40 MW of hydroelectricity from Nepal to Bangladesh, underscoring the mutual benefits of energy cooperation for both countries and the broader South Asian region. He also encouraged Bangladeshi business leaders to foster partnerships with Nepal’s business community and explore investment opportunities.

Sushil Gyewali, Chief Executive Officer of Investment Board Nepal, delivered a detailed presentation on Nepal’s investment landscape, highlighting opportunities in key sectors such as energy, tourism, agriculture, information and communication technology, urban infrastructure, healthcare, manufacturing, and mining. He also outlined strategic measures Nepal has implemented to create a favorable environment for foreign direct investment.

Dr. Khandoker Azizul Islam, Executive Member of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), spoke about Bangladesh’s investment priorities and expressed a commitment to collaborating with Nepal to strengthen investment ties in mutually beneficial areas.

Abdul Awal Mintoo, Chairman of National Bank Ltd. and former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), shared insights on doing business in Nepal. He emphasized the importance of enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

During an interactive session, Ambassador Bhandari and CEO Gyewali addressed queries and concerns raised by the participants.

The event attracted prominent business leaders from Bangladesh, including representatives from the FBCCI and the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), fostering discussions on expanding trade and investment relations between Nepal and Bangladesh.
