Weather Forecast: Light Rain in Hilly Regions, Fog Warning for Tarai


Kathmandu, Jan 29: The influence of the Westerly wind is currently being observed across Nepal, leading to partly to generally cloudy skies in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, while weather conditions remain fair in the rest of the country.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, dense fog has blanketed many areas in the Tarai region.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane reported that the Kathmandu Valley will experience partly cloudy skies until this afternoon. The minimum temperature in the Valley today was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to range between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.

The afternoon forecast predicts partly to generally cloudy skies in the hilly regions, while fair weather continues elsewhere. Light, intermittent rain may occur at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Similarly, light snowfall is likely in some high hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy in the hilly regions, with fair skies elsewhere. There are chances of light snowfall at one or two locations in the high hills and mountains of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

Over the next 24 hours, scattered light rainfall is forecast in a few locations of Koshi, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with possibilities of light snowfall in higher elevations across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim.

The Department has issued a fog advisory for Thursday morning in many parts of the Tarai, urging the public to exercise caution as it may impact daily life, agriculture, health, transportation, and aviation services.
