Govt Issues Travel Advisory for Nepalis Traveling to Thailand, Cambodia, and Other Countries
Kathmandu, Dec 24: The Government of Nepal has issued a three-point travel advisory for Nepali citizens planning to visit Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.
In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nepali citizens to exercise caution when traveling to these countries, particularly for foreign employment.
The Ministry highlighted growing concerns about human trafficking and other criminal activities. Reports suggest that racketeers have been luring Nepalis with promises of lucrative salaries, only to coerce them into illegal activities.
According to the advisory, many Nepali workers face serious challenges, including passport confiscation, excessively long working hours (12–13 hours a day), physical and mental abuse, and unpaid salaries.
The Ministry warned that engaging in such illegal activities is a punishable offense under Nepali law. It further advised:
- Avoid traveling on a visit visa for foreign employment purposes.
- Verify the authenticity of foreign employers, firms, and companies through Nepal's diplomatic missions abroad.
- Personally review the official websites of potential employers before accepting any job offers.
The government has urged all Nepali citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety while seeking employment opportunities overseas.
