At an interaction session organized by the Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Gandaki Province on Saturday, participants unanimously emphasized the importance of safeguarding Sikles' authenticity.
Gandaki, Dec 22 — Tourism entrepreneurs have highlighted the urgent need to preserve the unique cultural identity of Sikles, a renowned tourist village in Kaski, to ensure its sustainable growth as a key tourism destination.
At an interaction session organized by the Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Gandaki Province on Saturday, participants unanimously emphasized the importance of safeguarding Sikles' authenticity. The event was part of a larger trekking promotion initiative covering the scenic route from Sikles-Kapuche-Kori-Kholasonthar-Yangjakot to Pokhara.
Kisam Kumari Gurung, Chairperson of the Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs Association, stated that the core of Sikles' appeal lies in its rich culture and originality. She called for tourism development that harmonizes with the preservation of its unique heritage.
Bobar Jung Gurung, Founder President of the Association in Gandaki Province and Program Coordinator, underscored the historical significance of the area, describing it as an important site for the Gurung community. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to develop the Gurung heritage trekking route, which integrates notable Gurung villages such as Sikles, Kapuche, Kori, and Kholasonthar.
Devi Jung Gurung, Ward Chair of Madi Rural Municipality-1, noted that Sikles is historically significant as the first settlement of the Gurung people after migrating from Kholasonthar.
Bikash Gurung, Chairperson of the Nepal Mountaineering Association Gandaki Province, suggested that the Gurung heritage trekking route would serve as a vital alternative, especially as other trekking routes in Nepal are increasingly impacted by urbanization and settlement development.
Sikles is also home to several prominent tourist attractions, including a Peace Monument, marking the beginning of Nepal's peace process, and the Eco Museum, which offers visitors a glimpse into the region's history and culture.
The trekking route promotion program has received valuable support from the Nepal Tourism Board, Ministry of Industry and Tourism, Gandaki Province, Madi Rural Municipality, and the Gurung Tourism Entrepreneurs Association, all working together to highlight and preserve the cultural and historical richness of the Sikles region.
By maintaining its originality, Sikles has the potential to continue thriving as a prime destination for tourists seeking an authentic cultural experience in Nepal.
