Kathmandu, Nov. 10, 2024: In a decisive move to address ongoing issues regarding power tariffs, the Nepali government has given the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation the responsibility to resolve disputes involving electricity charges from dedicated feeder and trunk lines. 

This decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the official residence of the Prime Minister.

Key Developments and Decisions
The government has authorized the Ministry to release the report prepared by the Girishchandra Lal Commission, which examines the complex issues surrounding the tariffs. According to Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Government Spokesperson, this report will shed light on the necessary steps to resolve the dispute.

In addition to resolving the tariff issues, the cabinet has instructed that industries affected by power disruptions due to the tariff row will receive 24-hour power restoration. 

This move comes in response to concerns that the power outages have significantly impacted the economy, leading to limited industrial production, reduced revenue collection, and adverse effects on employment generation.

To ensure fairness and transparency, the government has mandated that industries will be charged according to the appropriate power tariff bills for their use of dedicated feeder and trunk lines, with the payment expected within 15 days. This is part of an effort to stabilize the power supply and resolve the ongoing disputes that have been troubling industrial stakeholders.

The power disruptions have had far-reaching consequences for the economy, especially in industries where continuous power supply is essential for operations. The government recognizes the direct impact on employment and economic growth and is working to mitigate these issues swiftly.
