Nepal Clinches Dominant Win Over Thailand in U-19 Women's T-20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers

The road to the ICC U-19 Women’s T-20 World Cup is still open, and Nepal’s impressive form has made them a formidable contender.

Nepal continued their strong run in the ICC U-19 Women’s T-20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers, defeating Thailand by a massive 106 runs in the fourth match of the tournament, held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday.

This victory marks Nepal's second consecutive win over Thailand in the tournament, having defeated them by 67 runs in the first encounter.

Nepal's Solid Batting Performance
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal posted a competitive total of 139 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sana Prabin was the standout performer for Nepal, scoring a crucial 53 runs, supported by Sabitri Dhami, who contributed 28 runs.

Soni Pakhrin also chipped in with a vital 19 runs. Despite the solid batting performance, Nepal's innings ended with just one ball to spare.

Thailand Struggles with the Chase
In response, Thailand struggled to get going, managing a mere 33 runs in 16 overs, far short of the target. Nepal’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout, preventing Thailand from building any significant partnerships. This led to a dominant win by 106 runs, showcasing Nepal's superior performance in both batting and bowling departments.

Tournament Performance So Far
Nepal's victory over Thailand follows a 108-run win over Kuwait in their second match of the tournament. However, they faced a narrow defeat against the hosts, the UAE, by 13 runs in a tightly contested match held on Saturday. The four teams in the qualifiers—Nepal, UAE, Kuwait, and Thailand—are playing a round-robin format, with each team facing each other twice.

Path to the ICC U-19 Women's T-20 World Cup
The tournament's winner will qualify for the ICC U-19 Women's T-20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Malaysia in January 2025.

With the UAE as the host nation, the competition is heating up, with Nepal aiming to top the group and secure their spot in the prestigious World Cup. The top-ranked team from the group will earn a place in the global tournament.

Nepal’s next match is against Kuwait on Tuesday, where they will aim to build on their strong form and continue their push for qualification.

Nepal's strong performance against Thailand, led by Sana Prabin’s half-century, keeps them in contention for the top spot in the Asia Qualifiers. With two wins under their belt, the team will look to further strengthen their position when they face Kuwait next.

The road to the ICC U-19 Women’s T-20 World Cup is still open, and Nepal’s impressive form has made them a formidable contender.
