Manipur Remains Tense but Under Control; Security Forces Recover IEDs, Arrest Militants

The Manipur Police has stated that while the situation in the state remains tense, it is under control, following extensive security operations over the past 24 hours across vulnerable hill and valley districts.

During a search operation on April 26, security forces recovered six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from T Minou village under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The IEDs were safely defused by the bomb disposal squad, averting potential threats.

In a significant breakthrough, two active members of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon) were arrested during the operation. The arrested individuals were identified as Shagolshem Lemba Meitei (43) and Shagolshem Romen Meitei (40), both residents of Loushangkhong Makha Leikai in Imphal East district. Authorities seized a four-wheeler, two mobile phones, and two wallets from their possession.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police recovered seven vehicles suspected to have been stolen or snatched by anti-social elements. As part of the intensified security measures, tinted glasses were removed from 207 vehicles during the inspection.

In a separate operation on April 25, security forces raided the residence of Wangmayum Barul Alam in Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi Darul Uloom Makha, under the jurisdiction of Lilong Police Station in Thoubal District. The raid led to the seizure of 3.9 kilograms of brown sugar, seven soap cases containing suspected heroin powder (weighing 12 grams each), 0.53 grams of brown sugar, seven bottles of Codeine (100 ml each), and seven mobile phones.

To ensure the uninterrupted movement of essential goods, authorities implemented strict security measures along National Highway-2 (NH-2). A total of 299 vehicles were monitored, and 107 checkpoints were established across multiple districts.

Additionally, the Manipur Police issued a public advisory urging citizens to refrain from believing or spreading rumours and fake videos. The public was encouraged to verify information through the Central Control Room’s rumour-free helpline at 9233522822. Authorities warned that those found spreading false information on social media could face legal consequences. Citizens were also urged to surrender any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the relevant authorities immediately.
