Trump Criticizes Putin for Attacks on Ukrainian Civilians

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for recent attacks on civilian areas in Ukraine, suggesting that Putin may not be serious about ending the war.

In a post on Truth Social following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Rome, Trump said Putin "maybe doesn't want to stop the war" and hinted at the need for tougher measures, including potential new sanctions targeting Moscow.

"There was no reason for Putin to be launching missiles into civilian areas, cities, and towns over the last few days," Trump wrote. "It makes me think that maybe he doesn't want to stop the war — he's just stringing me along — and may have to be dealt with differently, through 'Banking' or 'Secondary Sanctions.' Too many people are dying!"

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said Saturday that Putin, during a meeting in Moscow with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff on Friday, expressed a willingness to engage in talks with Ukraine "without preconditions."
