PM Modi’s Visit to Jeddah Yields Key MoUs Across Strategic Sectors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Jeddah marked a significant step in strengthening India-Saudi Arabia bilateral ties, with the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) across diverse sectors, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The two nations formalized agreements in the fields of space, health, anti-doping, and postal cooperation. A notable MoU was signed between the Saudi Space Agency and India's Department of Space, focused on collaboration in peaceful space activities. Similarly, the Ministries of Health from both countries signed an MoU to enhance cooperation in the healthcare sector.
In the realm of sports integrity, an MoU was signed between the Saudi Arabian Anti-Doping Committee (SAADC) and India’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to advance education and prevention in anti-doping efforts. Another agreement was inked between the Saudi Post Corporation (SPL) and India’s Department of Posts to facilitate cooperation in inward surface parcel services.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman co-chaired the second meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council (SPC). The leaders reviewed comprehensive progress across key areas including politics, defence, trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges. They also signed the official minutes of the session, reaffirming a shared commitment to deepen strategic collaboration.
Reflecting the growing scope of defence cooperation—spanning joint military exercises, training, and industrial collaboration—the two countries announced the formation of a Ministerial Committee on Defence Cooperation. Additionally, acknowledging the rising cultural and social interactions between their citizens, a Ministerial Committee on Tourism and Cultural Cooperation was also established.
However, in light of a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi cut short his visit, departing early and cancelling a scheduled state dinner.
Despite the premature end, the visit underscored the robust and evolving strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia, laying the groundwork for deeper engagement in the years ahead.
