The Vatican announced on Tuesday that the funeral of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM local time (0800 GMT) in St. Peter’s Square, in front of the basilica.

Following the ceremony, the coffin of the late pontiff — an Argentine national who passed away on Monday at the age of 88 — will be taken into St. Peter’s Basilica. From there, it will be transported to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome for burial.
