Russia Accuses Foreign Powers of Attempting to 'Derail' US Talks

Russia’s top economic negotiator has accused certain foreign countries of attempting to disrupt ongoing efforts to normalise relations between Moscow and Washington.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, said:
“There are a lot of people, structures, and countries trying to derail our dialogue with the United States.”
Dmitriev stressed the need for Moscow to directly communicate its position, citing what he described as widespread “anti-Russian propaganda” in the American media.
While he did not name the countries allegedly interfering, Russia has increasingly pointed fingers at European powers—particularly the European Union and the United Kingdom—for obstructing peace efforts in Ukraine. This shift in blame has become more pronounced since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January.
Since resuming office, Trump has taken a more conciliatory approach toward Moscow, engaging directly with President Vladimir Putin in a bid to broker a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict. Despite multiple rounds of high-level meetings—covering topics from embassy staffing to broader diplomatic ties—the initiative has so far failed to yield concrete results.
Dmitriev’s remarks came just ahead of a key meeting in Paris involving French President Emmanuel Macron, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and US envoy Steve Witkoff, aimed at charting a new course toward a Ukraine ceasefire.
