Pakistan Deports Nearly 60,000 Afghan Refugees in Just 13 Days: IOM

Pakistan has deported nearly 60,000 Afghan refugees over a span of just 13 days, according to a statement issued by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Tuesday.

"Between 1 and 13 April 2025, IOM recorded a sharp rise in forced returns, with nearly 60,000 individuals crossing back into Afghanistan through the Torkham and Spin Boldak border points," the statement said.

Since September 2023, more than 2.43 million undocumented Afghan migrants have returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries—primarily Pakistan and Iran—many of them through forced repatriation.

The Pakistani government has announced plans to deport up to 3 million Afghans from the country in 2025.

Currently, an estimated 7 million Afghan refugees live abroad, the majority in Pakistan and Iran, with most lacking proper documentation.
