"Katy Perry Joins Historic All-Woman Spaceflight with Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin"

Texas, April 14 – Global pop icon Katy Perry is set to soar to the edge of space on Monday aboard a Blue Origin rocket, becoming the biggest celebrity yet to join billionaire Jeff Bezos’s space tourism venture.
Perry will be part of a groundbreaking all-woman crew of six, including Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sanchez, TV host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, and activist Amanda Nguyen. The mission marks the first all-female space crew since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo flight in 1963.
The Blue Origin flight, scheduled for liftoff at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time (1330 GMT) from West Texas, will launch the women more than 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) above Earth—crossing the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space.
The 10-minute suborbital journey aboard the fully automated New Shepard rocket will see the crew briefly experience weightlessness before their capsule returns to Earth, slowed by parachutes and a retro-rocket system.
Blue Origin, owned by Amazon founder Bezos, has not disclosed the cost of the trip. Monday’s mission marks the company's 11th crewed flight, as it continues to compete with Virgin Galactic and SpaceX in the commercial space tourism sector.
‘For My Daughter’
Perry, known for chart-topping hits like Firework and California Gurls, said her space adventure is inspired by her daughter Daisy, whom she shares with actor Orlando Bloom.
“I’m doing this for my daughter, to inspire her to never have limits on her dreams,” she told Elle magazine. “I’m just so excited to see the inspiration through her eyes… when she sees that rocket go and she goes back to school and says, ‘Mom went to space.’”
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Perry shared her amazement upon learning that the space capsule is named Tortoise and adorned with a feather motif—symbols that match her parents’ nicknames for her. “There are no coincidences,” she said. “I feel like something bigger than me is steering the ship.”
A Growing Roster of Celebrity Spacefarers
Monday’s crew will join a growing list of Blue Origin passengers, which includes Star Trek legend William Shatner. The company is using such high-profile flights to keep public interest high and maintain momentum in the space tourism race.
While Virgin Galactic also offers suborbital experiences, Blue Origin has broader ambitions—including orbital spaceflight. In January, its larger New Glenn rocket completed its first unmanned mission to orbit, a major step toward that goal.
As Perry prepares to make history in the sky, the world watches another boundary blur between celebrity, science, and space.
