Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced on Thursday that he has directed the military to develop a plan allowing Palestinians to voluntarily leave Gaza.
"I have instructed the IDF (military) to prepare a plan to enable voluntary departure for Gaza residents," Katz stated.
He clarified that the plan aims to facilitate the departure of any Gaza resident wishing to leave, provided there are countries willing to accept them.
"The plan will include exit options through land crossings, as well as special arrangements for departure by sea and air," he added.
Katz’s announcement follows recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested a plan to "take over the Gaza Strip." Trump's remarks were met with criticism from world leaders, prompting efforts by his administration to temper the statement.
Expressing support for Trump's approach, Katz welcomed "Trump's bold plan, which could allow a large portion of Gaza's population to relocate to various places around the world."
He further noted that the initiative could assist Gazans in integrating into host countries while facilitating reconstruction efforts for a "demilitarized, threat-free Gaza."
Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich praised Katz’s move, stating, "I welcome the Defense Minister's decision to instruct the (Israeli army) to prepare for the implementation of our role in the migration plan and to facilitate the departure of Gazans to receiving countries."
