Pakistan's Passport Ranks Among World's Weakest

Pakistan's passport has been ranked among the weakest globally, claiming the 103rd position in the Henley Passport Index 2025, a slight improvement from last year’s ranking of 104th, as reported by The News International.

In 2025, Pakistan shares the same ranking as Yemen, with visa-free access to only 33 countries—a stark contrast to the world’s strongest passports. The Henley Passport Index, which evaluates the passports of 199 nations based on their visa-free travel access, derives its data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), The News International stated.

This ranking highlights the significant challenges Pakistani citizens face regarding global mobility. In comparison, Singapore tops the index, offering visa-free access to 195 destinations. Japan and key European nations like France, Germany, Italy, and Spain hold the third position, providing access to 192 destinations. Meanwhile, countries like Finland and South Korea experienced slight drops in rank over the past year.

Among nations with weaker passports than Pakistan are Iraq (104th), Syria (105th), and Afghanistan (106th). Slightly ahead of Pakistan are Somalia (102nd), Nepal, Palestine, and Bangladesh.

According to The News International, despite the modest improvement in 2025, Pakistan's low ranking continues to reflect limited travel freedom for its citizens. This restricted global mobility not only limits opportunities but also raises concerns about Pakistan's diplomatic relations and its ability to strengthen the passport's power.

As the Henley Passport Index illustrates the widening gap in global mobility, Pakistan's position underscores the barriers its citizens face in a world where ease of travel increasingly symbolizes international connectivity and access to opportunities.
