Over 200 Flights Delayed at Delhi Airport Due to Dense Fog
Dense fog blanketed parts of northern India on Friday, disrupting flight and train operations amid a persistent cold wave.
According to multiple local media reports, over 200 flights were delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, as poor weather conditions impacted visibility. In response, the airport issued an advisory warning of potential delays throughout the day.
"While landing and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may experience disruptions. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information," Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) announced on social media Friday morning.
Flights operated by airlines such as SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Air India were significantly affected. IndiGo, in particular, urged passengers to opt for alternative arrangements or request refunds if their flights were canceled.
The dense fog also disrupted rail services, with Indian Railways reporting delays for at least 24 trains, including several major long-distance routes. Some trains were delayed by over 4.5 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that dense fog and cold conditions would persist in parts of northwest and central India for the next two days, with gradual improvement expected thereafter.
Delhi recorded a temperature of 9.6°C on Friday morning, marking the fifth consecutive cold day for the national capital.
