15 Missing, 2 Rescued After Fishing Vessel Sinks Off Eastern Indonesia
Fifteen people are missing, and two others have been rescued after a fishing vessel sank off Indonesia’s eastern Maluku province, a local official reported on Tuesday.
The vessel, which was carrying 17 people, sank while fishing on Saturday. Two crew members were rescued by another fishing boat on Monday afternoon, according to Monce Brury, head of the Southwest Papua province's search and rescue office.
Brury stated that the incident was confirmed through accounts from the two survivors, and rescuers cited poor weather conditions and the vessel's condition as the likely causes of the tragedy.
