Google Acquires €27 Million Land in Finland for Data Center Expansion

Google has purchased a €27-million (approximately $28.5 million) land parcel in Finland to further expand its data center operations, according to an announcement by the Finnish government on Thursday.

The transaction involves about 1,400 hectares of land near Kajaani, a northeastern town that serves as a significant hub for data center activities. Metsähallitus, Finland's state forest property administrator, facilitated the sale, highlighting that land transactions of this magnitude are uncommon in Finland.

Google has been operating in Finland since 2011, with its data center in Hamina employing around 400 full-time staff. The Hamina facility, located 145 km east of Helsinki, was Google's first data center in the country, established in 2009.

In May 2024, Google announced a €1-billion investment to expand its Hamina campus, a move expected to generate additional employment opportunities within the next two years.

This new acquisition near Kajaani reflects Google's commitment to strengthening its infrastructure in Finland, leveraging the region's stable environment and advanced digital ecosystem.
