Kremlin Denies Report of Trump-Putin Phone Call on Ukraine
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the report as "simply false information" and clarified that no such phone call took place.
The Kremlin on Monday denied reports from The Washington Post claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with US President-elect Donald Trump last week about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the report as "simply false information" and clarified that no such phone call took place.
The Washington Post report alleged that Trump spoke with Putin from Mar-a-Lago last Thursday, advising him not to escalate the conflict and emphasizing America’s military presence in Europe.
The report, citing unnamed sources, suggested that Trump expressed interest in future discussions aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine swiftly.
Trump, during his campaign, vowed he could end the war "within hours" but has yet to disclose his specific plans or negotiation terms.
Putin has maintained that peace talks with Ukraine would require Kyiv to withdraw from eastern and southern regions occupied by Russian forces, a condition Ukraine strongly opposes.
Following Trump’s election, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cautioned against any concessions to Russia, warning that ceding land or yielding to Moscow’s demands would likely lead to further aggression from the Kremlin.
