Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need for a positive transformation in all sectors of society through the equal participation of men and women.
Speaking at the Women Leadership Summit 2025, organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), PM Oli highlighted the deep-rooted role of women in Nepali culture. He noted that traditions have long regarded women as dynamic agents of change, often equating them to goddesses.
"A chariot cannot move forward with just one wheel. The entire society must progress through the equal participation of men and women. We must collaborate with the private sector to eradicate poverty while ensuring social justice and equality," he stated.
PM Oli expressed satisfaction with the increasing representation of women in politics, citing their appointments to high-ranking positions such as President and Chief Justice. However, he stressed that this alone was not enough.
"We must not be complacent. Women should be actively encouraged in education, entrepreneurship, and employment," he added.
Government Commitment to Economic Development and Good Governance
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering enterprise development and women’s empowerment by strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors.
"We must keep moving forward—there should be no turning back. A vehicle may shift into reverse on sharp turns, but there is no back gear on a highway. Democracy is our highway," he remarked.
He further emphasized that laws should facilitate, rather than hinder, national development and pledged to refine government policies and regulations based on insights gathered from the summit.
Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, underscored the government's commitment to industrialization in collaboration with the private sector. He mentioned that reforms were underway, including new guidelines to promote the use of domestic products in government institutions.
As part of the event, national football player Preeti Rai and social activist Ruksana Kapali were honored by PM Oli for their contributions to sports and social causes, respectively.
