Kathmandu – Kathmandu University (KU) has decided to implement a 'credit transfer' system, allowing students from various foreign universities to complete their remaining semesters at KU based on their previously passed coursework.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle announced the decision following discussions between university officials and students facing academic challenges abroad. He stated that students who provide evidence of completing courses in foreign universities would be eligible to transfer their remaining semesters to KU.
"We have not yet finalized the study fees, but we are committed to facilitating students wishing to continue their education here. The degree will be awarded by Kathmandu University," Wagle said. He also mentioned that KU is considering arrangements for students to take their exams in Nepal after completing their studies abroad.
While KU does not have a formal agreement with KIIT University in Odisha, India, Wagle emphasized the need for diplomatic and academic discussions to resolve ongoing issues.
Shyam Sundar Khadka , Associate Dean of KU's School of Engineering, added that policies are being developed to ensure students can take examinations at KU after completing courses at other institutions.
This initiative aims to support students struggling in foreign universities by providing them with an opportunity to continue their education smoothly at Kathmandu University.
