Sudurpaschim Reports 1,081 Human Rights Violations in 2024: INSEC


Sudurpaschim Province witnessed 1,081 cases of human rights violations and excesses in 2024, according to the Nepal Human Rights Yearbook 2025 released by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Sudurpaschim Province Office in Dhangadhi on Wednesday.

Presenting the report, INSEC Province Coordinator Khadkaraj Joshi stated that 1,999 people were affected by human rights violations and atrocities across the province last year. Of the total incidents, there were 11 cases of human rights violations—involving one woman and ten men—and 1,088 cases of excesses, primarily affecting 1,094 women and 34 men.

From the state side, 11 individuals were victimized, including:

2 cases of beating
6 cases of unlawful arrest
1 death in jail
1 death in custody
1 case of inhuman treatment
Other key highlights from the report include:

9 deaths due to beatings and assaults with sharp weapons
11 injuries from violent incidents
105 cases related to child rights violations
947 cases of violence against women
3 cases of caste-based discrimination
8 cases of beatings and 3 cases of intimidation

Joshi noted a decline in human rights violations compared to 2023, with 102 fewer victims reported in 2024.
