Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the Beldangi Water Supply Project at Damak Municipality-3 of Jhapa district today. PM Oli arrived in his home district yesterday on a two-day visit.
Addressing a programme organized on the occasion, the Prime Minister expressed the government's commitment to provide quality drinking water to all Nepalis by 2030. He said he would be pleased to see the people opening taps at their homes and drinking water flowing from the taps, and that the government under his leadership is actively working to manage quality water to the entire people of the country.
Stating that political stability and development works have been guaranteed after the formation of the present coalition government comprising the nation's two big major parties, PM Oli, who is also the CPN (UML) Chairman, made it clear that the government is moving ahead with the goal of completing the incomplete plans and programmes by ending the hurdles and obstructions faced since long time in the development construction works.
He expressed the commitment to carry out works that produce positive results in favour of the country and the people by conducting programmes on a nation-wide campaign basis in the electricity, agriculture, communications, industry and sanitation, among other sectors.
"We should all be united for building the nation. The country cannot be developed if, like the monkeys, we neither build our house nor allow others to build theirs. We might be affiliated to different political parties, but we should be one in development and construction works. I, a representative of the people of this constituency, have once again become the Prime Minister. I will do something extra for the country. I will make your names in the world as well. I urge one and all to be assured of this," the Prime Minister said.
Minister for Water Supply Pradip Yadav said that the present government is making efforts to provide potable water at every house by 2030 in line with the government's goal for the same. He said the government is carrying out works, in coordination and collaboration with all the three tiers of the government, to meet the goal of 'One House, One Water Tap'.
The Water Supply Minister reiterated that the government is actively working to provide quality drinking water in an accessible manner, as water supply carries importance in the country's social and economic development.
Stating that although Nepal is rich in water resources, it has not been utilized to the extent possible, he said, "Now, the people need not organize agitation programme demanding drinking water. The government is committed to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals in drinking water."
He said with this, three water supply projects will be implemented in Damak.
The construction of this water supply project was initiated five years back in the fiscal year 2076/77 BS.
The Water Supply Project is constructed at a total cost of Rs 500 million 792 thousand. Twenty-six thousand seven hundred and forty-three people of 6,521 households at the Municipality Ward Nos 2, 3 and 4 will be benefited from this project.
